En el quinto episodio de La Propia Network, conversamos con Estefanía Muñoz Cabrera, artista originaria de Illapel, en el centro norte de Chile. Desde ahí desarrolla arte contemporáneo y arte público, mientras enseña en la escuela local y participa en el centro cultural de su comunidad.

Hablamos de cómo crear desde el territorio puede ser una práctica radical de honestidad y resistencia. Estefanía conecta, desde su casa en la cima de un cerro, el mundo rural e indígena —atravesado por los traumas de la poscolonización— con los discursos del arte contemporáneo latinoamericano.

En nuestra conversación, exploramos la nobleza de los materiales, la importancia de trabajar sin pretensiones y la potencia que emerge cuando la vida cotidiana se entrelaza con la creación artística. También recordamos el proyecto Galaxia/Territorio, una experiencia que nos permitió pensar juntas en la relación entre arte, memoria y territorio.

In the fifth episode of La Propia Network, we talk with Estefanía Muñoz Cabrera, an artist from Illapel, in north-central Chile. From there, she develops contemporary and public art while also teaching at the local school and taking part in her community’s cultural center.

We discuss how creating from the territory can become a radical practice of honesty and resistance. From her home on a hilltop, Estefanía connects the rural and Indigenous world—marked not by folklore but by the traumas of post-colonization—with the discourses of contemporary Latin American art.

In our conversation, we explore the nobility of materials, the importance of working without pretension, and the strength that emerges when everyday life intertwines with artistic creation. We also revisit the project Galaxia/Territorio, a powerful experience that allowed us to think together about the relationship between art, memory, and territory.
